The single vineyards at Podere Le Ripi

It was clear to everyone, right from the beginning of Podere Le Ripi’s creation, that among the 12 hectares of vineyards on the property there were two that stood out for their personality.

We made it our long term goal to turn those two vineyards into future single vineyards. Such path led to the creation of two labels: Lupi e Sirene and Amore e Magia.

However, at the time (beginning of 2000s) Podere Le Ripi was licensed to produce Brunello from one hectare only.

So we made the decision of granting such right to the Lupi e Sirene vineyard.

Amore e Magia Rosso di Montalcino, which we aged like a Brunello right from the beginning, is the wine that helped us pave our way into the market.

So Amore e Magia became a Rosso di Montalcino aged like a Brunello, labelled as the former but appreciated as the latter. The simple formula that often surprised everyone turned out to be the right move to make: while the Lupi e Sirene established itself as a high profile Brunello, Amore e Magia left everyone stunned: they were drinking what tasted like a Brunello (and was—except for its name) disguised as a Rosso di Montalcino.

The story repeated itself year after year, from 2008 to 2014. Every year these vineyards gave us two fantastic journeys into the world of Sangiovese, two different but unique journeys. We were blessed with further licenses to produce Brunello and were finally able to name and label Amore e Magia with its rightful appellation, and at last it became DOCG Brunello di Montalcino. The vineyard that had allowed us to reach so high up finally got the name it deserved. …Cindarella found her matching shoe and everyone lived happily ever after…
