Rosso and Brunello di Montalcino

Two wines that belong to the tradition and terroir of Montalcino, are the two main spokespeople of Podere Le Ripi. We measure ourselves and our success, each year, by the Sangiovese which comes from our vineyards, trying to interpret the vintage and uniqueness of every single corner of our land.

We do this so that we can build upon Sangiovese’s capacity to narrate an original and different story every time.

What do Rosso and Brunello have in common?

Both are produced with 100% Sangiovese from Montalcino, in purezza

Sangiovese in Montalcino has always expressed itself differently from the rest of Tuscany, thanks to the oceanic clay soil and a windy and dry climate.

Due to all these conditions wines made from Sangiovese develop a thicker texture with numerous layers, more than anywhere else in Italy.

Sangiovese is the reason why we do everything we do. It is the grape variety that made us fall in love with Montalcino, that shaped our history and present, our terroir, the different vineyards and vintages.

The marriage between Sangiovese and Montalcino is the starting point for all the magic that follows. We strongly believe that these two factors are what allow us to produce great wines.

A conversation with Rosso di Montalcino

What’s your name? Sogni e Follia Rosso di Montalcino

Where are you from? I’m from Montalcino’s West slope, a wild and fresh area, where I’m surrounded by woods and very few vineyards, on a soil made up mainly by silt and clay, and many fluvial rocks.

What do you want to be when you grow up? I’m a Rosso di Montalcino but the blood that runs through my veins is actually Brunello, thanks to the 4 years of aging I go through in large casks. A period of time which transforms me into a kinder wine and completes all my micro fermentations.

What can you tell us about your label? I’m the third wine of a trilogy: Amore e Magia, Amore e Follia and Sogni e Follia.

Tell us something about yourself: Rosso di Montalcino is often an underrated product which lives in Brunello’s shadow, but I’ve always been Podere Le Ripi’s business card, many clients get to know us through me. That’s why I prefer being referred to as a great red rather than a little red.

A conversation with Brunello di Montalcino

What’s your name? Cielo d’Ulisse, and I’m the last Brunello to have joined Podere Le Ripi’s team.

Where are you from? I’m from Montalcino’s West slope, from a few vineyards selected specifically for their uniqueness, rich in Galestro (shist) and quartz mixed with sand and silt of alluvial origin.

What do you want to be when you grow up? I’m going to be Podere Le Ripi’s entry Brunello, produced in roughly 20.000 bottles and ready to gift a wonderful experience for a good price.

What can you tell us about your label? Francesco’s love for astrology and nautical travel shaped my identity.

Tell us something about yourself: I love being a classic Brunello, starting from the traditionally raised vineyards and the medium-sized grape bunches I come from. Due to this I’m a wine that’s extremely pleasent to drink, delicate and slightly feminine: a real-life testimonial of a timeless Brunello.

A conversation with Brunello di Montalcino

What’s your name? Amore e Magia, Brunello di Montalcino!

Where are you from? I come from one of the most beautiful corners of Montalcino: Castelnuovo dell’Abate, on the East slope. From a vineyard rich in calcerous marlstone and clay, where life isn’t all that easy!

What do you want to be when you grow up? I was born as a Rosso di Montalcino, but since the 2015 vintage have been promoted to a Brunello. A few weeks later I was awarded my first 100 points, so let’s say that I don’t set myself any limits!

What can you tell us about your label? “Curiosity leads to culture leads to sensitivity leads to enthusiasm leads to love leads to Magic leads to universal love. Because everybody feels the Magic. Therefore curiosity is a Universal Gift.”

Tell us something about yourself: I’m always the last wine to complete the fermentations, due to my density and concentration. I need to be given time in order to tell you my story properly, and to reach an equilibrium between creaminess and saltiness which, I can assure you, you will never forget about.

A conversation with Brunello di Montalcino

What’s your name? Lupi e Sirene, Brunello di Montalcino Riserva

Where are you from? From a vineyeard that is completely unique: there is nothing else like it. 11.000 alberelli grow on the Eastern slope of Montalcino, on a brown marlstone soil rich in limestone.

What do you want to be when you grow up? I’m Podere Le Ripi’s firstborn: first wine and first Brunello. I’ve grown a lot since that distant 2003, becoming a more recognisable and austere wine, and I work hard every day to become an even greater wine.

What can you tell us about your label? I’m more than a label, I’m Podere Le Ripi’s logo! Francesco designed our logo and decided to place it on my bottle: it then also became my name!

Tell us something about yourself: Thanks to my high density alberelli, I’m more than an aesthetically pleasing vineyard, I also have the perfect balance: I produce enough wine, without ever exaggerating, and am always three-dimensional thanks to the salinity and tension of my flavor. I must admit that I like taking my time, and therefore the reason I’m a Riserva. Longevity is my strongsuit!
